Thinking Time

As little ones begin to outgrow their afternoon nap time, it is still beneficial for them to enjoy some time alone each day. When our children reached this age, we established a daily Thinking Time as a way to train them to quiet their thoughts and hearts. This was also a wonderful precursor to their future devotion times with the Lord.

During this time, each child retreated to his or her room for 30-45 minutes. They were allowed music or books, but no toys. Nothing is best.

This small break is a time for children to quietly meditate and think. And who knows, they might even take a nap! I liked to time our children's Thinking Time so that I could begin dinner and have the house calmed down for my husband David when he arrived home from work.
