Director of Ministry DevelopmentWhen Gina first took Entrusted With a Child’s Heart in the fall of 2001, Betsy’s teaching challenged her biblical convictions and busy way of life.

“I really thought that I was taking this class to learn how to be a biblical and godly mother. Instead, Betsy teaching, through God’s Word, became a mirror into my own heart and beliefs. It challenged me to be intentional about everything I did and to “rebuild” my thoughts, goals and desires as a follower of Christ. I never expected that from this class.

I realized that just because you are a committed Christian, does not make you a godly wife or mom. It’s a skill-set I needed to learn from God’s Word, but on a very practical level.

After I heard Betsy’s testimony about how God changed her heart to give up her lifelong dream of being a doctor, I was so shocked! As a professional in the corporate world, I learned that she also shared high standards of excellence in everything she pursued. I soon realized, ‘This is the class I have been waiting for – for someone to show me how to practically live out God’s principles in my marriage and family – and I want to get an A+!’

I realized that I wasn’t sinning intentionally in any way. Instead of the sin of commission, I had the sin of omission, which is not actively pursuing my first love in Christ in my parenting. Fortunately, I had the hope that God was not concerned about how I built my house before knowing His specific teachings on parenting, but that He cares about how I was going to build it after He showed me His specific blueprints and plans.

What I thought would be difficult actually became fun and exciting as God taught me to run hard after Him, but then to wait and rest in Him. It’s a delicate balance I’m still learning today. God is so full of surprises because just when we thought we could parent our 3 kids well, He blessed us with 3 more little boys, our 3 little prophets – Isaiah, Samuel & Micah. And now we get to start all over!"
